DANscienCE Festivals


What is DANscienCE?

DANscienCE is the innovation of Liz Lea, Director Canberra Dance Theatre, and Chris Kennedy (orig CSIRO Discovery) National Film Archives, Canberra.

The inaugural DANscienCE Festival in National Science Week, August 2013, was a week of showcasing an extraordinary array of dance' interface with science including:

  • Aerodynamics;
  • Ornithology;
  • Environmental Landscapes;
  • Mature Dancers, Dance for Parkinson's Disease;
  • Health: Nutrition, Injuries, Biomechanics;
  • CGI animation in the film, video game, and advertising industries.

The 2nd DANscienCE Festival was held in conjunction with Creative Industries, Qld University of Technology (QUT) through Professor Gene Moyle, Head of Dance. DANscienCE Website

Owen of Phoenix Functions has been proud to support both DANscienCE Festivals. At the inaugural DANscienCE FEstival he joined Ros Penfold as a physiotherapy panel reviewing 6 genres of dance by a range of age groups and training from young students of Hip Hop and African Tribal to middle aged ballet and belly dancers to elderly dancers performing an indigenous women's dance.

Having filmed and photographed the Inaugural DANscienCE Festival, Owen was invited to perform the same role at the Second DANscienCE Festival. Clips of many presentations from both festivals can be found at the link above.
